Prediction of Good Times Ahead
SP, March 16th 2010

The grain crops are expected to reach 144 million ton this year, close to the record of 136.3 million achieved in 2007/8. Compared to the past year, crops will grow by 5.6% and this recovery is due, largely, to the optimal climate conditions that enabled higher productivity, but we should also recognize the importance of our technology.

131 million ton (91% of our crops) are concentrated in three products: soybeans, corn and rice, with emphasis on soybeans, whose production grew to 67.6 million ton, 10.4 million ton above the volume reached last year.

And the wind is blowing in our favor not only in grain, since we have reasons to celebrate in the beef market as well.
Beef exports in the first two months added up to 208 thousand ton, 16% more than in the same period of the previous year.

Both demand and prices have recovered, according to Abiec (Brazilian Association of Beef Exporter Industries), since the average price of fresh beef has grown by 24%, reaching the price of US$ 3,581.00.

The beef industry expects 2010 to be a good year, since we will have back the purchases from the European Union and with the strong advance of Iran and the entry of China in the market, we will have plenty of reasons to believe in a year of prosperity for all.
Sugar cane mills also expect to grind 12% more this year, that is, 598 million ton of sugar cane from the 2010/2011 crops, according to the industry´s estimate.

But, we will have hard work ahead of us, since we also have the huge challenge of continuing to produce more without deforesting, since we know that our major asset to be preserved is our planet Earth.

Say “Yes” to productivity and “No” to deforestation!

Good luck to all!
